Exploring Space and Place – mapping King’s Cross

Exploring Space and Place was a year-long action research project led by Lala Thorpe, an Education Curator based in north London, in partnership with Creative Islington and Central St Martins. The project focused on providing local children and families with an opportunity to creatively engage with the rapidly changing culture and landscape of King’s Cross (N1C). It involved working with the students and staff of two schools in the local area, and three artists who were leading a ‘cultural mapping’ project using different approaches – sound, text, photography and performance. A panel discussion held at Central St Martins invited leading practitioners and local organisations to discuss Place-making and socially-engaged practices.

Making Place was a mapping response to this project.
